The Nephilim
Last week, we saw woven through the narrative the evolution of culture amid the devolution
of morality. We saw the development of industry, arts, and agriculture, but we also saw men
like Lamech introduce polygamy and vigilante vengeance to the human condition.
We also saw the trajectory of mankind eastward away from the God of the Garden, that will
continue until I return from my Sabbatical and God enters into covenant with Abram.
• Next week, we will see the deluge of the earth that happened in the time of Noah. I’ve always
found it interesting that Parents like to decorate a child’s nursery with scenes from Noah’s
Ark.. All of the little Animals are coming in 2 by 2. Yet, if you take the story seriously, you will
discover this is one of the most traumatic events in human history. 10’s of thousands,
perhaps 100s of thousands of people were downed in the span of hours. The water was
littered with corpses of man and animal alike. Predator fish and sea monsters would be
feasting on the decaying flesh. Is that really the story you want a child surrounded with as
he’s tucked in at night? Just a thought…
